Twenty years ago, Everett and Sandra Wray took a chance on a new kind of crop. Read the story and view pictures from over the years on our celebration website.
Frans Fontaine Hornbeam
Carpinus betulus
Frans Fontaine Hornbeam is a European hornbeam cultivar with one of the narrowest columnar habits in the group. Slow growth builds a tree about 35 feet tall and 15 feet wide in USDA Zone 5. Dark green leaves hold a neat summer canopy useful for street trees and living screens. The slim outline fits boulevards and property lines where width is limited. Fall color is yellow.
